On the occasion of the 112th Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the National Poet of Bangladesh, the Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue of the Department of World Religions and Culture of Dhaka University held a seminar on “Kazi Nazrul Islam and Interfaith Harmony” on May 25, 2011.
“Inter-religious and intercultural dialogue contributes to mutual understanding, and that it not only resolves existing conflicts but also to prevent new conflicts from arising,” noted the Honorable Minister, Ministry of Education, Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, as he inaugurated the 2nd International Conference on Inter-religious and Intercultural Dialogue 2010, held in the beautiful, white-marbled Senate Building of the University of Dhaka from November 27-29, 2010. With an international contingent from eight nations and more than 400 participants from Bangladesh attended the opening session in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. We also noted that Hon. Minister for Religious affairs Adv. Shajahan Mia was also present, and Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Areffin Siddique was also on the chair.
